Pasonanca fire victims get goodies from City



ZAMBOANGA CITY (ZNS) - Mayor Beng Climaco yesterday spearheaded the distribution of relief goods to families displaced by the conflagration in Pasonanca September 27, as she reiterated the city’s all continuing concern for all victims of calamities or disasters.
The affected families received pails, basins, 20 kilos of rice, 10 cans of sardines, 10 pieces noodles as well as used clothing. Casseroles including plates and other kitchen wares will also be distributed to vulnerable families.
The rice supply was courtesy of Tzu Chi Foundation will the goodies were courtesy of the Filipino-Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Recall that a huge fire struck Senteno Subdivision in Lacasteville, Pasonanca around 4:25pm Saturday engulfing some 40 houses made of semi-concrete and light materials. A paralytic, Virgilio Nunez, 80 years old, was trapped and perished in the incident.
Damage to property was estimated to have reached more or less P1.2 million. The fire was said to have originated from the house of Robert Calapis.

As of yesterday, a total of 92 families with 266 dependents have been displaced, based on records from the City Social Welfare and Development Office. Of the total number, 59 are house owners, 18 house renters, 18 sharers and one boarder.

60 families with 242 dependents are occupying 13 classrooms at the Pasonanca Elementary School as evacuation center.

Accompanying the mayor during the distribution of the relief items were Councilors Myra Abubakar and BG Guingona, City Social Welfare Officer Socorro Rojas and staff, Pasonanca barangay chair Efigenio Julian Jr. and numerous others. (Sheila Covarrubias) 100714)
