VM Iturralde calls for completion of repair works at City Council building

ZAMBOANGA CITY (ZNS) –Vice Mayor Cesar Iturralde has called on the city engineers office and the contractor to complete its repair work at the city council.

While the city council has accepted the building following its repair by a contractor for over a year work, there are still parts of the structure that remains to be repaired.

He said the repair work should be done by the contractor who undertook the repair job over a year ago. -Or the city engineers office can do the repair itself.

The major repairs on the structure undertaken since two Decembers ago included the replacement of the concrete roof deck with standard galvanized sheet roofing.

The contractor also repaired the foundations of the building as well as strengthened its walls and other main parts of the structure.

Iturralde said that there are still parts that need repair including cracking of walls that continue to this day.

City engineer Luis Despalo said these cracks are just minor defects or concerns of the structure.

The contractor still stands to collect some two million pesos for the repair work and the city will not release the amount unless the repairs are completed.

On the other hand, the city engineer said the city has not given a deadline for the contractor to finish its unfinished repair work on the building.

The city government has already spend over a hundred million pesos for the construction and repair of that city council  building located beside the city’s sports complex.(ZNS) (100314)
