Evacuees at Cawa Cawa and Grandstand
to move out of the area by end of month

ZAMBOANGA CITY (ZNS) –  All evacuees at the Sports complex  and Cawa Cawa Boulevard will move out of these areas before the end of this month or before Sepember.

City Administration Antonio Orendadin Jrs said there are still at least  4,750 evacuees left out of the total 23,000 displaced persons  at the Joaquin F. Enriquez Memorial Sports Complex.

Orendain Jr. said that the evacuees  are of different categories. Some were already temporarily transferred to the transitory site at Masepla Barangay Mampang  and others to Barangay Sta. Catalina.

He said that those at  Masepla , Mampang will later on  be transferred to Mariki where houses on stils are being built by the government.

Aside, from Mariki the City Government purchased some 38 hectares of lot  along the shores of  Mariki  to accommodate the rest of these war victims. The area  will meet their livelihood needs and the like.

As this developed, Orendain said that  the government also gave the evacuees  some goods worth P30,000 in a form of materials which they themselves will have to built their houses again and for those  whose house were totally burned  at Paniran-Buguk.

The construction of houses of different types  will take about 18 months to complete and will be financed with  money provided by the national government.

Orendain also said that the construction at the Transitory sites will continue  even though the evacuees will  be transferred to their respective area  later.

What is important, he said, is the status of the war victims to avoid more deaths from diseases and other illnesses at the sports complex.

On the other hand the head of the Temporary Shelter Cluster, Dr. Elmier Apolinario reiterated  that the city government will try to remove the evacuees and war victims from their present sites at the Granstand and the Boulevard before the month of September.

Aside from the 2,427 familia families or  12,991 individuals housed at the grandstand, there are also 560 families of 2,832 individuals at the Boulevard.

The city government is trying its best to convince these so called internally displaced persons, or evacuees or war victims to transfer to transitional or temporary sites. (Letty M.Militante) 090114
