DOH readies  City hospitals

against MERSCoV and Ebola

ZAMBOANGA CITY (ZNS) – The Department of Health (DOH) is undertaking preparations to enable local hospitals to attend to patients afflicted with the Middle East Respiratory Syndrome-Corona Virus (MERS-CoV) and Ebola.
DOH Regional Infectious Cluster Head Dr. Venus Fortuna said Wednesday they will conduct two-day orientation and workshop on MERSCoV and Ebola preparedness for personnel of hospitals designated as depository hospitals for patients afflicted with such kind of diseases.
Fortuna said the depository hospitals in this city are the Mindanao Central Sanitarium, Labuan Public Hospital and the Zamboanga City Medical Center.
“So in case that there will be cases, these hospitals will be our depository of patients with Ebola or MERS-CoV,” Fortuna added.
Fortuna said the orientation and workshop is scheduled to be held from September 18-19 in this city, adding the orientation and workshop will be preceded by a regional inter-agency committee meeting to be held on September 16.
She disclosed the DOH in coordination with the City Health Office will be working for 24 hours daily for the whole month of October in time for the arrival of the hajj pilgrims from Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
She said they are expecting more than 2,000 “of our Muslim brothers from the hajj who will be coming home from the first week up to the rest of the month of October.” (PNA) (090614)
