Despalo denies claims delisted contractors

still awarded projects, mum of their names

ZAMBOANGA CITY (ZNS)-City Engineer Luis Vicente Despalo of the City Engineer’s Office (CEO) has denied allegations that contractors who have reneged on their jobs or have abandoned city government projects are still awarded new contracts by the city movement.

Despalo also denied allegations that his office is defending or keeping from public view these erring contractors in the city.

In case of projects abandoned by contractors, he said the office charged to check these contractors is the city legal office.

Despalo declined to identify these erring contractors who abandoned projects claiming that it is the city legal office that is keeping track of these contractors.

There are about 80 local contractors in four categories that are accredited to bid for projects of the city government.

But as to the identity of erring contractors, he said the matter or question can only by answered by the City Legal Office.

However, Despalo clarified that if and when a certain contractor abandons or fail to complete any city government project, that contractor cannot anymore participate in bidding for other city government projects. (Letty M. Militante) (091714)
