Canneries for war evacuees

ZAMBOANGA CITY (ZNS) –The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is training Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) or victims of the 9/9 war in Zamboanga for possible employment in sardine factories in this city.

Incidentally, there are vacancies in these factories brought about by the resignation of some workers for one reason or the other.

The DSWD is training these IDPs in preparation for possible employment next year.

DSWD Regional Director Zenaida Arevalo said they are trying to find ways to coordinate with owners of sardine factories for the possible employment of these war evacuees.

The DSWD is also conducting livelihood training for these evacuees and provide them with starter kits of loans to Stara them off in livelihood project. (zns)(102414)
