ZAMBOANGA CITY (ZNS) –The Department of Health (DOH) has checked on at least seven suspected MERSCOV virus victims in hospitals in this city this week and in the past few days.

Of this number, all six were found negative for the disease while the department is still waiting for the results of  tests made on the seventh patients.

Health Regional Director  Ninfa B. Toribio said that initial medical checks were made on these patients upon arrival at the airport in Manila and that the medical check made at the local airport is the second such checks that returning Middle East Travelers are subjected to.

She said that the regional health office is coordinating with the city health office and hospital authorities in preparing the city against the possible confinement of patients and the spread of the virus in the city and the region.


The department has advised the public particularly those who traveled abroad , on in the middle east to immediately proceed to hospitals if they get sick or develop symptoms of the Merscov virus. (102414)
