‘Media ambiente para na Jovenes’ launched



ZAMBOANGA CITY (ZNS) -  “Media Ambiente Para na Jovenes,” a mangrove planting activity initiated by the private sector and fully supported by the local government, was   held last week  at the 5-hectare mangrove area near the Zamboanga State College of Marine Sciences and Technology (ZSCMST) in Rio Hondo.

The project aimed to plant 12,500 mangrove propagules and is envisioned to help ensure a healthy environment for the future generation.

Some 10 agencies or institutions were expected to participate in the endeavour with each group having at least 100 participants planting 1,250 propagules, which will be sourced from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR).

The activity was highlighted by the signing of the pledge of commitment by the participating agencies  spearheaded by Mayor Beng Climaco.

The activity  included a 15-minute warm-up event,     mangrove planting , brief post planting program and boodle fight-type breakfast.


Edwin Caliolio, board of director of the Zamboanga City Water District and president of the Southern City Colleges is the over-all coordinator of the project. (Sheila Covarrubias) 100714)
