Unclaimed seized motor
vehicles, bikes baffle cops
“We have found out that much of the impounded
motorcycles in the different police stations and Public Safety Company are not
being recovered or being taken by the alleged owners” Casimiro declared during
the Monday press briefing in City Hall.
Based on records, the ZCPO has impounded a total
of 246 motor vehicles because of various violations or recovered as carnapped
vehicles during series of police operations. Among the common violations
committed by the owners of the said vehicles were driving without license or
the non-possession of official receipts (OR) or certificate of registration
(CR) or plate numbers. The number, though, is lower than last year’s record of
291.
These vehicles are impounded at the Public Safety
Company compound and in the different police stations in the city, according to
the City Police Director.
“We are now in the process of consolidating the
engine number and chassis number of all these motorcycles, and we would be
asking the media to help us disseminate this to the public” he said.
Casimiro said when vehicles are carnapped, the
owners report only the type of vehicle, its color or plate number but fail to
reveal or show proofs of the units’ chassis and engine numbers. (Ella Dee
