City releases cash
whirlwind victims
City Mayor Beng Climaco, together with City
Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) Special Operations Officer Evelyn
Las Marias, led the distribution of the cash assistance amounting to Php
80,000.00.
Facilitated by the CSWDO, the financial
distribution covered a total of 22 families whose homes were totally and
partially damaged by the whirlwind. Five thousand pesos was provided to 7
families with totally damaged homes, while 15 received Php 3,000.00 for
partially damaged properties.
Aside from the cash support, each family also
received a sack of rice as an additional assistance, courtesy of the Tzu Chi
Foundation.
Majority of the families came from Bolong and
Sangali, while the rest hailed from Dulian and Bunguiao.
Recall, a whirlwind hit the City on July 4 and
devastated areas in several East Coast communities in its wake. Aside
from homes, approximately 2.5 hectares of rice fields were also inundated, and
affected 4 farmers, as well as 400 hills of bananas, and 5 coconut trees.
At the onset of the calamity, early relief
assistance was immediately provided by the local government through the CSWDO
and the City Agriculturist’s Office.
The
cash assistance is part of the social support services provided by the local
government to victims of calamities and other disasters, and draws its legal
mandate from a resolution of the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management
Council (CDRRMC). (Jasmine Mohammadsali) (091714)

The
distribution of the Philhealth cards in Limpapa, Labuan
and Sinubong yesterday coincided with the distribution of school bags to high
school students in the said barangays. The bag distribution is a personal
advocacy of the mayor. (Sheila Covarrubias) (091714)
